This is Poppy, my companion for a few months on Manda Island off the north Kenya coast. I'm up before the sun and we go for an amble along the Indian Ocean shoreline - the crabs are still out in force amongst the flotsam and Poppy chases them back into the sea with a vengeance. He finally separates one from the safety of the sea and a lengthy battle commences with teeth and claws snapping and whirling, but no actual contact. After a while, the crab appeared to be playing with Poppy - as a Matador does with a bull - but there was no bloodshed today and the fight ended a draw. Poppy was not happy with the judges decision and still feels he won on points!
